Today, each of the ideologies will give a presentation to a packed audience, wherein they will tout the superiority of their system - or maybe they'll just yell a lot. Let's begin! Totalism This guy comes out on stage in full military uniform, flanked on all sides by red banners. He delivers a dry and uninspiring speech filled with bizarre revolutionary language like "unite and resist the anti-proletarian international capitalist class" and "the immortal science of Sorelianism leads us ever onward. While you're zoning out, you can't help but notice the red banners are a little too dark. Actually, they look almost brown; like they've been dyed in blood that's now gone dry. Creepy. At the end of the speech, the Totalist, disappointed by the lackluster response, threatens to have the audience "up against the wall" after the international revolution. He is escorted out by security. Syndicalism Dressed in a simple work jumpsuit and carrying a small boom box blasting the best of the Wobblies, the Syndicalist passionately describes a society in which the chains have been broken and the worker lives free of exploitation. Unfortunately, due to the Writer's Union going on strike before they could finish his speech, he runs out of material 5 minutes before his allotted time is up. He spends the rest of his time nervously glancing at his watch and trying to insist to the audience - unconvincingly - that this is just a part of liberation and Syndicalism is quite efficient on the whole. At the post-presentation luncheon, he'll be noticeably lacking in food, since the Fast Food Worker's Union has also gone on strike. Radical Socialism The Radical Socialist calmly walks out on stage and explains that speaking his ideas to the audience is an unacceptable act of authoritarianism. Instead, he invites members of the audience to come up and share their ideas in a discussion circle. A few people join in, but what begins as a passionate discussion on the benefits of direct democracy quickly derails into arguing over what to get for lunch. After much debate, the circle comes to a consensus; they'll go to a steakhouse. The Radical Socialist angrily storms off, but not before declaring that eating meat is also an unacceptable act of authoritarianism. Social Democracy The Social Democrat comes on stage dressed in only a tank top and boxer shorts. He quickly explains this was all he could afford after the 80% tax rate. He delivers a reasonable, if uninspiring speech on the benefits of government-controlled unions and the welfare state. When he starts to talk about the failures of capitalism, you can almost tell he would've rather been in the RadSoc discussion circle, but when he starts to sound Syndie he pulls himself back and stutters out a "b-b-but I'm not saying we should discard capitalism, I'm, uh, I'm saying we should, uh. before launching into his next topic. You sympathize, but you can't help but notice that all the other ideologies, strange or not, can at least afford pants. Social Liberalism He arrives 2 minutes late, and is clearly unprepared to give any sort of presentation. He halfheartedly explains that Social Liberalism is "kinda like Social Democracy but not really, and also kinda like Market Liberalism but not really. He spends the rest of his time nervously thumbing through a copy of The Nation, trying to find a relevant article. He doesn't. Market Liberalism The show the audience has been waiting for, the Market Liberal rides on stage on a diamond-encrusted motorcycle as pyrotechnics explode around him. Scantily-clad women dance around a lion-tamer as he wrangles a Bengal tiger. The Market Liberal screams his presentation into a microphone, although you can't really hear it through the constantly exploding pyrotechnics. You vaguely make out the words "make your wealth work for you" and "proven get-rich-quick method. Five lucky members of the audience find the keys to their brand new Mercedes-Benz sedans under their chairs. Wowed by the flashy presentation, many members of the audience will sign up for the Market Liberal's 4-week mail-order correspondence course guaranteeing them immense wealth or their money back. They won't get their money back, as the Market Liberal has already fled to the Cayman Islands. Social Conservatism Seated in a simple chair and dressed in his Sunday best, the Social Conservative softly reads passages from the Bible to the audience. Occasionally he'll rise from his chair to wind up his old phonograph, which is playing his prized record, a copy of Will The Circle Be Unbroken. After finishing a selection of verses, he calmly walks off stage. Later, you'll find him in the parking lot, on his knees, tearfully begging God for forgiveness after he mispronounced the word "triune. Authoritarian Democracy The Authoritarian Democrat marches onto the stage and immediately launches into a short, crisp speech on the benefits of ordered and efficient government. He's convincing, but you can't help but wonder if he's more committed to the "authoritarian" part than the "democracy" part. At one point, an audience member yawns, and the AuthDem, not used to meeting any sort of resistance, glares at the member for an unbroken minute before marching off stage as abruptly as he marched on. Paternal Autocracy Lord Nigel Reginald Bortsworth of Grendelshire whisks onto stage in regal, flowing robes, declaring his dominion over what he calls the "Kingdom of Two Galicias. comprising Galicia in Spain and Galicia in Poland. He delivers a "royal proclamation. which he actually reads off of a scroll from the middle ages, in which he declares democracy to be a dead, liberal superstition, and proudly declares the return of "right royal government" to his Kingdom. The audience is completely baffled, and if there was anyone intrigued by his (actually fairly poignant) critiques of democracy, they're turned off immediately by his bizarre persona. He declares that he must "return to his kingdom hence at onceforth" and whisks himself off stage. Shortly thereafter, several orderlies charge onto stage, demanding to know if anyone has seen the escaped asylum patient. National Populism Dressed in a military uniform - actually, you're pretty sure it's the same uniform that the Totalist had, and. this might actually be the same person - the National Populist delivers a frantic, disconnected presentation. Without any transition or lead-in, he flies between "locally-governed organic kingdoms" to "highly centralized republics under the guidance of our Conducător" without seeming to notice the contradiction. He keeps mentioning meat hooks, and you can't help but notice that his uniform is blood-stained, and it's not dry. Several members of the audience reach for their phones to call the police, to which the National Populist responds by brandishing a meat hook and screaming that "traitors and 'undesirables' have no place in our new society. He is tazed by security, who arrived just in time, having gone to look for the Totalist that went missing.
